About EIOPE

Europe for Inclusive Outdoor Policy and Environment (EIOPE) promotes accessible outdoor spaces and activities whilst caring for the environment — through projects and policies development, research, innovations, and cross-border cooperation.

Our main focus is on people with fewer opportunities of all ages — those facing barriers related to disability, income, geography, or social exclusion.

What We Do

EIOPE works across seven interconnected areas:

Policy & Advocacy — We draft and promote inclusive outdoor access policies at the EU and national levels, supporting the EU Green Deal through an inclusion lens and advocating for environmental justice.

Research & Data — We study access gaps to natural spaces, map accessible nature areas across Europe, and publish policy briefs and landscape assessments.

Education & Capacity Building — We train policymakers, NGOs, and land management bodies on inclusivity, and develop toolkits for inclusive nature design.

Networking & Collaboration — We connect a European network of inclusive outdoor initiatives, hosting conferences, workshops, and forums for cross-border exchange.

Community Outreach — We support grassroots projects in disadvantaged communities and amplify underrepresented voices in outdoor policy through storytelling, media, and art.

Program & Project Support — We fund inclusive outdoor projects and partner with NGOs, schools, municipalities, and environmental agencies.

Monitoring & Evaluation — We develop inclusion metrics, monitor policy impact, and track EU-wide progress toward equitable environmental access.

Our Structure

EIOPE operates through two main bodies:

  • Center for Research and Innovation — driving evidence-based work and new approaches
  • European Network — connecting organizations, researchers, and institutions across borders
